Is it true that many cosmetics brands are made by the same company?

Like I heard that Loreal has the main factory and produces brands like Lancome.


So does it means that is actually all the same ?


Wearing loreal is the same thing than wearing lancome, except for the containers of make-up and name ?

Yes this is old news. Suave owns Salon Selectives and other major brands, and for Lancome and Loreal, the latter is just a lower grade performance make up. Lancome is better, but the best can be found at Sephora such as Smashbox, and Too Faced... not those run of the mill fancy bancy's that just age your face and have limited color selctions.





Let's see... the more expensive is best, but go to Sephora or www.sephora.com and see a REAL selection better than department stores and crappy local pharamcies... and try Tarte blush. Yeah, I herd that too. even the generic brands are made by those large companies but the use the big names ';named brand'; to make more money
yes, they buy each other out but usually keep the same formulas. so don't worry.
Well it isn't actually the same. A lot of makeup companies are owned by larger companies. L'oreal is owned by nestle foods.


Lauder owns so many companies it's sick. The deal is that each line has it's own corporate group and it's own lab formulas that are not at all the same. They may make cheaper ';copies'; with cheaper ingredients and more fillers but it's not the same product. Sometimes they don't even use the same cosmetic labs despite being owned by the same parent company. They each have their creative directors and are run as seperate entities. Nestle owns L'oreal which is their cosmetics division. L'oreal owns lancome, kiehls, biotherm, garnier, giorgio armani cosmetics, and dermablend. Lauder owns so many I'm not sure I can name them all but off the top of my head here goes: clinique, lauder, mac, aveda, la mer, bobbi brown, prescriptives,...you know what i'll be listing these all day. Urban Decay owns hard candy. Louis vuitton owns sephora, fresh, makeup forever, benefit, guerlain, dior, and many others. Most brands in department stores are normally owned by one of thes with the exception of the newly sold Stila (it was bought by lauder, lauder ran it into the ground and now it's privately owned), Chanel, Laura Mercier, Yves St. Laurent, Smashbox, and philosophy.

I'm not sure but I don't think so because I bought a Cover Girl concealer and the tube it came in looked like my old Clinique one that I had before it was stolen. I needed one so bad that I quickly settled for Cover Girl. It was very watery and it doesn't last long. It wore off in like 2 hrs. So, I tossed that one and bought my old Clinique concealer. I noticed the difference in texture and it lasts longer! Who knows....I prefer named brand make-up......It just lasts longer!
Well personally, I know that Estee Lauder makes other brands like Tommy Hilfiger fragrances. Bobby Brown I think is another brand, as well as Origins. There are a bunch more under the corporate umbrella, but those are off the top of my head.

and it owns lancome, maybelline, Kiehl's, Biotherm, and just recently acquired Bath and Body Works.





Estee Lauder owns Prescriptives, MAC, Origins, etc....
